Advancing Next-Generation Exposomics: From Population to Cellular

The exposome represents longitudinal environmental exposures collectively that significantly impact human health. This presentation explores exposomics across multiple scales, from large population studies to emerging single-cell approaches. It will include pilot findings on exposome mixture effects, community case studies involving respiratory diseases and chemical disasters, and novel wearable technologies for personal exposure monitoring. The talk will also introduce cutting-edge single-cell exposomics techniques and conclude with a vision integrating artificial intelligence, green chemistry, and One Health approaches to advance environmental health research.
Dr. Peng Gao is an Assistant Professor of Environmental Health and Exposomics at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Combining analytical chemistry with computational methods, his research advances exposomics to better understand environmental impacts on human health. Following his Ph.D. from the University of Florida, postdoctoral training at Stanford Medicine, and a faculty position at Pitt Public Health, Dr. Gao has investigated chemical exposome profiles in East Palestine and the relationship between environmental exposures and respiratory diseases. With over 80 peer-reviewed publications and as PI or Co-Is on NIH grants, he serves on multiple high-profile journal editorial boards and review panels for NIH and DOD grants.
