Call for Nomnations

The Society for Applied Spectroscopy Undergraduate Student Awardee will have demonstrated an aptitude for research in one or more of the various fields of spectroscopy and maintained a GPA of 3.0 or higher in their undergraduate course work. Research experience can consist of assisting a professor or a graduate student with their current research or a separately designed research project related to spectroscopy. Other factors being equal, a student who works independently or in a group of other undergraduates is preferred.

Nomination materials should include the following:

  • Copy of the student’s transcripts.
  • A nomination letter from the student’s research mentor that outlines the results of research project related to spectroscopy. The student’s research as well as information concerning the student’s over all research techniques and work habits should be included in the letter.
  • A written description of the research written by the student nominee. The description should be between 2-4 pages.

The Awardee will receive $500, a one-year subscription to the journal, Applied Spectroscopy, and will be invited with their mentor or professor to the annual SSP Awards Night May 19, 2026 at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh.

The award is open to undergraduates in PA, OH, WV, VA, MD, NJ, DE, or NY.
